Lok Sabha Election: PM to contest polls from 'Puri seat', Reports

Pradeep claims that the PM has an attachment with the people of Odisha, so they can contest from Puri.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to contest the 2019 general elections from the Puri constituency in Odisha, claimed Senior BJP leader and MLA Pradip Purohit, on Wednesday.

"One cannot rule out the prime minister contesting from Puri. There is 90 per cent possibility of the PM contesting from Puri seat," Purohit told media.

Pradeep claims that the PM has an attachment with the people of Odisha, so they can contest from Puri.

"The prime minister loves the people of Odisha and has an attachment with Puri. Therefore, he may prefer this seat for the next elections," he further added.

However, the Prime Minister on Tuesday refused the news calling it to be a media creation.

The BJP MLA said that since the Prime Minister had fought from Varanasi in 2014 with the blessings of Lord Jagannath, he can contest elections from Puri this time.

He also said that the final decision would be of party's Parliamentary Board.

Odisha BJP Vice-President, Samir Mohanty expressed his happiness and said,

"We will be very happy if the Prime Minister contests from Odisha. The state BJP has proposed the matter to the central leadership."

While telling media how Odisha came into the picture, Sameer Mohanty said, the state BJP sent the proposal to contest the 2019 polls form Puri seat to the central leadership. BJP's local body wants PM to contest Lok Sabha elections from this seat.
