After Lok Sabha, Chetan Chauhan and Sidhu to play on Vidhan Sabha pitch

Lucknow: Once described as strokeless wonders of Indian Cricket, two cricketers will be seen in action on different pitches. Chetan Chauhan and Sidhu, two veterans of Indian Cricket will be contesting in the coming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

Both played several match-winning innings for their side and it will be interesting to see whether they continue the same for their respective political parties.

Duos played well in the Test matches (Lok Sabha) and now are set to get the ball rolling in ODIs (Vidhan Sabha) for the first time. Interestingly, both will be seen contesting Vidhan Sabha elections for the first time but also from opposition.

Chetan Chauhan, two times Member of Parliament (MP) from Amroha, was elected as a candidate from Naugawan Sadat constituency of Amroha in the recently released first list of Bharatiya Janata Party. On the other hand, Navjot Singh Sidhu is expected to contest the February 4 Punjab elections from Congress from Amritsar East.

It may be recalled here that Sidhu, earlier, had represented BJP in Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2014.

When they entered Indian Cricket team, both were strokeless wonders but turned fine stroke players with time.

Other Highlights:

  • He has been the vice-president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).
  • Chauhan has also served as a coach of Delhi team.
  • He was also the chief of the Board of Veteran Cricket in India (BVCI).
  • On June 2014, Chetan was appointed as the chairman of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
  • Navjot Singh Sidhu was elected to the Lok Sabha from Amritsar in 2004 from BJP.
  • Following a road rage incident in 1988, he gave resignation from Lok Sabha in 2006.
  • Sidhu retained the Amritsar after contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
  • He gave resignation from the Rajya Sabha on July 18, 2016.
