Leave symbol issue to me & go to constituencies, Akhilesh Yadav to MLAs

Lucknow: ''Forget about election symbol, leave it to me. Go to your constituencies and prepare for the polls,'' Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav told his supporter legislators who gathered at his residence in expression of solidarity amid battle of attrition within the party.

Akhilesh, who was elevated to the post of Samajwadi Party President in place of Mulayam Singh Yadav, also promised tickets to all the sitting MLAs who were present to show allegiance to him. It will be pertinent to mention that about 200 MLAs met him and assured to sign him the affidavit of support to be submitted to the Election Commission by January 9 for all important decision about symbol of the party i.e cycle.

Since the party symbol having being claimed by both the SP factions of Akhilesh Yadav and Mulayam, it was sensible for the UP CM to convince them that the issue of symbol should be left to him to take up.

In an impassioned address to his supporters, the 'new ' party chief told them to make concerted efforts to gift Mulayam Singh Yadav the victory in the UP assembly polls. ''I have sought only three months from 'Netaji' , after which he will be free to appoint anyone the party president,'' he reportedly told the partymen on Thursday.

On the other hand, Mulayam and Shivpal Singh Yadav have flown to New Delhi to take legal expertise on the issue of symbol even as Akhilesh Yadav was busy meeting party leaders and getting affidavit signed.

Not only this, the Akhilesh faction has asked for 100 affidavits of suuport each from every district committee on a format prepared by the party. The affidavits are asked to be submitted by Friday morning.
