Impact: Congress fields Kapil Sibal for Rajya Sabha

Lucknow: The Congress on Saturday announced that the senior party leader Kapil Sibal will be the party candidate for Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, on May 23, newztrack.com reported it first that Sibal will the RS candidate of Congress.

• Eleven seats of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh are getting vacant in July.
• Sibal contested the last Lok Sabha elections from Chandni Chowk in New Delhi but had to taste defeat.
• He needs 36 votes to book his berth.
• The Congress has 29 members in Rajya Sabha and Sibal would be needing seven additional votes from other small political groups.
