Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday hosted anti-BJP ‘United India’ rally at the Brigade Parade ground in order to shore up Bharatiya Janata Party in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Leaders from various opposition parties- SP, BSP, TDP, DMK, HD Deve Gowda, JD-S, Congress, AAP, National Conference, RJD, LJD and JMM, attended the event.

Statements by various parties

Mamata Banerjee- “The regime of Modi government has come to an end. The Central Government has passed its expiry date and in the coming days, a new dawn will descend. We will work together and it's a promise.” She further said, “Danga laga do, fasaad laga do, ek hi unka (BJP) issue hai, Hum Bengal main 'Rath Yatra' ke naam pe danga-fasaad nahi karne denge.”

Shatrughan Sinha- “If saying truth is rebellious, then I think I am rebellious too, since I cannot compromise with my principles and truth.”

During the mega rally in Kolkata he also said, “CM Banerjee is the national leader in true sense. She is really a tried, tested and experienced leader.”

Shatrughan Sinha was in full mood to attack BJP. In this context, he said that there is a huge difference between promises and performances. Moreover, he also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi indirectly by saying him dictator.

Sinha told people that most of the people present in the rally are not against PM Modi. Their issues are demonetisation, complicated GST, among others.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi (Congress)- On stage of ‘United India’ rally, Abhishek congratulated TMC chief Mamata Banerjee and said that everyone present on the stage wants to avoid the division of votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. He further said that due to the formation of ‘Grand Alliance’, PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah are afraid.

HD Kumaraswamy- "You wait for some time and then you will get a proper leader for future development of this country. At this juncture all the party leaders should leave their personal agenda and come together to save the country."

Hardik Patel- Patidar quota agitation leader also spoke at the ‘United India’ rally. He said that Subhash Chandra Bose fought British; we have to fight thieves.

Mallikarjun Kharge- "I appeal that we all unite to save the Constitution & the democracy. They (BJP) are helping their corporate friends. They promised to provide 2 crore jobs every year, where are the jobs?"

Akhilesh Yadav- "To tease us, they (BJP) say we have a lot of contenders for PM's post, we say people will decide who'll become Prime Minister. As elections are approaching, you are forming alliance with CBI and ED while we're forming alliance with people of India."

N Chandrababu Naidu- “Except one or two opposition parties who are neutral or have their own reservations all parties are coming together. This mega rally is going to set up a new agenda for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The BJP-led NDA has always betrayed the nation and has failed on all fronts. We are here to protect our nation.”

BSP leader SC Mishra- “Factories have closed down, farmers are in distress, minorities are the worst affected under this government. Such a government needs to be uprooted. If we want to save the constitution, we need to get rid of the BJP government.”

DMK Chief MK Stalin- “Wherever PM Modi is going; he is fiercely attacking the Opposition. Modi is fearful of Opposition and that is why he is also cursing us, he is afraid of our unity, we must come together to safeguard India.”
