Giriraj Singh makes controversial remark against Muslim population

New Delhi: In a spoiler alert for the Bharatiya Janata Party, the union minister Giriraj Singh on Sunday triggered another controversy by making an objectionable remark about the minority status for Muslims.

Singh stated, "Population of Muslims in India has increased to an extent that a new law is required to change their minority status."

Singh's statement comes amid the spree of attempts by BJP leaders including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to woo muslim voters in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

It may be mentioned that this is not the first time when the Union Minister has made such statements. Below are the controversial statements made by the leader earlier -

  • Muslims population has increased from mere 10 per cent at the time of India's independence in 1947 to 24 per cent now and Hindus population has decreased from 90 per cent in 1947 to 76 per cent now.
  • As per the state’s official records, their population is 19 per cent of Bihar’s 10.5 crore population. Muslims are in a majority in Kishanganj district, with 80 per cent population. But still they are getting minority status
  • Hindus should seriously think of increasing their population in the country by producing more children.

Giriraj Singh is a BJP member of parliament from Nawada constituency of Bihar.

It may be mentioned that Singh made this remark after the survey conducted in America revealing that India will be the most Muslim populated country till 2050. The population of the Muslims will cross the mark of 30 crore.
