Lok Sabha Polls to begin on April 11; Results on May 23

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Sunday said that the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 will be held in Seven phases starting from April 11. The result will be announced on May 23.

Addressing a press conference at the Vigyan Bhawan, here, the chief election commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora said, "Elections will be held for 543 seats of the Lok Sabha with approximately 900 million people casting the ballots, at 10 lakh polling stations across the country."

Highlights of the Lok Sabha Elections

-Third phase of election will take place on April 23. Fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh phase elections will take place on April 29, May 6, May 12, and May 19, respectively.

-First phase of the polls will start on April 11, while second on April 18.

-Counting of votes will take place on May 23.

Phase 1 in 91 constituencies in 20 states

Phase 2 in 97 constituencies in 13 states

Phase 3 in 115 constituencies in 14 states

Phase 4 in 71 constituencies in 9 states

Phase 5 in 51 constituencies in 7 states

Phase 6 in 59 constituencies in 7 states

Phase 7 in 59 constituencies in 8 states

-There are 15 million voters in the age group 18-19.

-Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim will be held with Lok Sabha polls. Assembly elecions in Jammu and Kashmir will not be held along with the LS polls.

-VVPATs will be used with EVMs at all polling stations.

-EC launched an app for complaints.

-Model Code of Conduct will come into effect from today itself in the entire nation. Any violation will be dealt in the strictest manner.

-GPS tracking will be enabled for EVMs safety.

-CRPF jawans will be deployed at sensitive polling booths.

-CCTV cameras will be installed at all polling booths.

- 1950 will be the new voter helpline.

On Saturday, the Commission had conducted a review meeting as part of its preparations for the multi-phased elections.

In last Lok Sabha elections, the schedule list was announced on March 5, 2014.
