Digvijaya Singh removed as Congress in-charge of Goa, Karanataka

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday removed senior party leader Digvijaya Singh as in-charge of party’s Goa and Karnataka wing.

Digvijaya has been replaced by A Chella Kumar as the new party in-charge of Goa while KC Venugopal has been appointed as the chief of Karnataka arm.

The big step has been taken following Congress’ defeat in recently concluded Goa elections. The decision has also been taken by keeping Karnataka elections in mind which are scheduled to be held in 2018.

Digvijaya was facing criticism from all around after Congress' failure in forming government in Goa.

Earlier, Manohar Parikkar had taken a jibe at Digvijaya in his farewell speech in the Rajya Sabha. "My special thanks to honourable member Digvijaya Singh, who happened to be in Goa but did nothing so that I could form the government there," Parrikar had said.

It may be recalled here that Congress had emerged as the single largest party with 17 seats but failed to form government. Bharatiya Janata Party, despite winning lesser seats, succeeded in forming government in alliance with smaller parties.

It may be mentioned here that Digvijaya Singh is a former two-time Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
