Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party Supremo Mayawati appointed her brother Anand Kumar as the party-Vice President of Friday.

The official announcement regarding this was made during a party function held here on the occasion of 126th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar.

It could be recalled that Kumar has been facing an Income-Tax and Enforcement Directorate inquiry for his alleged links with bogus companies. Kumar has not even been a primary member of the BSP but has been empowered by the party chief to carry out party activities in her absence and even appoint members into party fold.

What Mayawati said:

  • Anand was being deliberately targeted by BJP government at the center to malign party's image and dent me politically but he did not bow down to the pressure.
  • He once assured me that he would not succumb to ensure that party keeps up with its Bahujan mission.
  • That is why I have decided to appoint him as party's vice-president.
