Lucknow: Addressing a press conference Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, on Wednesday announced that she will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"Our coaliation is doing good...I can vacate a seat and contest for the Lok Sabha later if I want," Mayawati announced in a press conference. But for the good of the country and the people, I don't want to contest the polls right now, she added.

She further said,“I know I can win from any seat, all I have to do is file my nomination and my party workers will take care of the rest. We have a strong alliance with RLD and SP to defeat BJP and it is more important for us to win more seats than for me to win one. I had earlier resigned from Rajya Sabha to keep our movement alive but keeping in mind the current political situation I have decided not to contest LS elections.”

In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, BSP got nearly 20 per cent votes in Uttar Pradesh becoming the third largest after BJP (42.3 per cent) and Samajwadi Party (22.2 per cent) -- although it has failed to win a single seat.
