Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker Shahnawaz Hussain on Saturday said that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was attempting to weaken the fight against black money by indulging in baseless and uncalled for rhetoric.

Rubbishing the allegations levelled against PM Modi by Rahul Gandhi, Shahnawaz Hussain said, "The nation is successfully fighting against black money following to the initiatives taken by PM Modi. He has already freed India from Congress and now working very hard to free the country from corruption as well," BJP lawmaker Shahnawaz Hussain said.

Interacting with media persons after inaugurating a 'chowk' in the name of legendary singer Mohammed Rafi in suburban Bandra, he added, "Rahul Gandhi is indulging in baseless, uncalled for rhetoric just to weaken the Centre's fight against black money and corruption. But we will not let him succeed."

He also defended the Maharashtra government's decision of spending Rs. 3,600 crore on a memorial for Chhatrapati Shivaji at a time when the state is bound to pay heavy debts, he said, "The BJP government is only fulfil the long standing wish of the people. The whole country is proud of Shivaji Maharaj and he is loved across the world. There are a number of benefits of constructing memorials which include increase in tourism, etc."

He also claimed that the memorial will be an achievement for the entire nation.

Over the past few days, Rahul Gandhi has been levelling corruption allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi claiming that the note ban is not a surgical strike on corruption and black money but an economic robbery and firebombing on India's poor.
