CBI raid at Chidambaram's residence: Congress accuses BJP of vendetta politics

New Delhi: Lambasting the Centre for the CBI raid at the residence of former Union Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram, Congress on Tuesday blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government of practicing vendetta politics.

"The reality is that vendetta has become a DNA of the BJP. Neither Chidambaram nor any Congress leader or any other leader of opposition will be deterred, would be cowed down or would fear the politics of revenge and vendetta," Randeep Surjewala said, while talking to the media persons about the "failures" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government during past three years.

Surjewala further claimed, "BJP and PM Modi have failed miserably in taking action against their leaders like Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the multi-crore Vyapam scam and Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for helping former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi in escaping the country."

"The entire landscape of BJP is mired by one scam after another. If yardstick is morality then why is he (Modi) shying away from ordering an inquiry into the Sahara-Birla Computer Excel sheets, in which none other but the Prime Minister himself has been named repeatedly about having taken bribe," Surjewala said.

The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) raided more than a dozen places on Tuesday morning in connection with Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearances given to INX Media (now called 9X Media) when it was run by Peter and Indrani Mukherjea, and P Chidambaram was the Finance Minister.
