Akhilesh Yadav has support of 90% MLAs, Ram Gopal Yadav tells EC

New Delhi: Amid the intensifying internal brawl within the Samajwadi Party (SP), Akhilesh Yadav's supporters met the Election Commission on Tuesday and claimed that the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister holds support of 90 per cent of MLAs.

Informing about the same, sacked Samajwadi Party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav said, "We have said to the Election Commission that 90% of MLAs are supporting Akhilesh Yadav ji and hence party led by him must be considered as (the actual) SP."

Meanwhile, Akhilesh loyalist Kiranmoy Nanda, who was expelled on January 1 by SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, alleged on Tuesday that there was something dodgy with the signature of Mulayam Singh on the expulsion letter.

The Mulayam Singh supporters, however, claimed on Tuesday that the Saturday's expulsion of Akhilesh and Ram Gopal was never officially revoked on paper and was conditional upon Akhilesh not holding a convention.

According to this claim, Akhilesh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav remain technically disqualified.

So, Mulayam Singh's case remains stronger in the Election Commission as a convention can only be called by the party president, not by the disqualified members.

Meanwhile, a meeting between Akhilesh Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav is underway at the latter's official residence in Lucknow. According to the sources, the talks for a truce between the two sections of the party are underway only because of the election symbol 'bicycle'.
