New Delhi: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh on Sunday was slapped by a woman party worker, who later alleged that she was being forced not to raise the issue of corruption in ticket distribution for Rajauri Garden Assembly bypoll.

The party volunteer, named Simran Bedi, slapped the AAP leader when he was campaigning for the bypoll in the region.

"I had to slap Sanjay Singh because none of my attempts to raise the issue of alleged corruption in the party were being heard. I made my best efforts to report the issue to the top brass leaders including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh, they were unwilling to listen to me," she said.

It may be mentioned that Bedi was aspiring to contest the MCD polls.

Speaking over the incident, AAP's Delhi wing chief Dilip Pandey said, "It was a very shameful incident and we strongly condemn it. No such attempts of our opponents would help them in their wish to stop AAP's road to victory in Rajouri Garden bypoll."

Informing about the incident, the police said that they received a PCR call from AAP's Tilak Nagar MLA Jarnail Singh who claimed that party leader Sanjay Singh was assaulted by a woman.

"We are yet to receive any written complaint from Sanjay Singh, but we have started to investigate the issue," the officer said.
