UP takes additional steps to improve power availability in the state

Lucknow: The Uttat Pradesh government, on the pattern of the voluntary income disclosure scheme of the Centre, has launched a voluntary disclosure scheme for power sector.

The scheme which will end after the middle of next month was launched on Wednesday without much fanfare unlike the central project.

It envisages legalisation of power connection to those who disclose use of power illegally through a hook or Katia.

To end on June 20, the scheme provides for registration by payment of Rs 50 for one kilowatt power supply and double the amount for higher load.

The legalisation of such connections at cheaper rates may end the Katia menace which has cut down availability to genuine consumers and increased line loss percentage.

The government has simultaneously made another move to improve supply and fulfill the promise of 24 hour power supply in the state, in phases.

It has decided to ensure 24 hour power supply to those feeders at present which have reported the lowest percentage of line losses in a given period. So far some feeders including a a few in Bundelkhand district have been identified for the purpose.

The number of such feeders is likely to increase in view of the voluntary disclosure scheme.
