Lucknow: Former member of parliament Shafikur Rehman Berk has joined hands with All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Saturday, leaving the Samajwadi party.

According to political sources, Berk wanted his grandson Jiya to get SP assembly tickets from Sambhal district but the party preferred Ikbal Mehmood as its candidate for the upcoming elections in the state.

It is worth mentioning that Mehmood has been the member of legislative assembly for four times from the same district.

Sambhal has four assembly seats and will go to polls in phase two of the assembly elections on February 15.
