UP IAS writes to subordinates: makes 'confession' ahead of new govt.

Lucknow: The change of political guard in Uttar Pradesh has sent many bureaucrats in a spot of jitter. Some are searching for Nagpur connections while others have slipped into sycophancy mode in many ways. The want is for the good posting sans label of previous government.

In one such outrageous attempt, the Additional Chief Secretary Sadakant has shot off a letter to UP Housing Commissioner, Vice Chairmen of Development Authorities and chiefs of Special Area Development Authorities directing them to avoid finalising new tenders, new sanctions and careful about payments.

What is striking feature of the letter is the 'confessional' tone in which the top officer of Housing department has asked the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) to do away with ' old work culture' and exercise utmost 'precaution'.

It is for everyone to realise that the reputation of LDA's Vice Chairman Satyendra Kumar Singh has always been questionable and he was quite close to outgoing regime of Akhilesh Yadav. Ironically, Sadkant, who headed all the authorities, in the capacity of Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Planning Department, did not try to improve the -work culture' of LDA or for that matter other authorities.

It was sudden 'enlightenment for Sadakant to confess all is not well with LDA which , in any case, has been known for ground level corruption and general apathy towards the public. The letter of Sadakant has also been forwarded to a certain group of Bharatiya Janata Party leaders,is being a subject of ridicule among the officers.

It can also be recalled that the Housing department had one secretary level officer who was running the authorities through remote control and used to derive power from the political leadership. Interestingly, Sadakant had one probe of corruption pending against him at the Centre and still he has been lobbying hard to become Chief Secretary in the next BJP regime in UP.
