Lucknow: All efforts to avoid battle royal have come to a nought. Former queen of erstwhile Amethi estate and estranged wife of Sanjay Singh, Garima Singh, has filed her nomination for the Amethi assembly seat in addition to his second wife Amita Singh. While the former is contesting on the BJP ticket, the latter has been fielded by the Congress.

To give an interesting twist to the fight on the seat, the Samajwadi Party candidate , Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, has also remained in the field, although the party has reached an alliance with the Congress and the constituency is represented by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.

The Samajwadi party had left 105 seats out of the total 403 for the Congress under the pact and Amethi was one of them. Asked about it , a party leader described the contest here as a " friendly fight" .

The inside story, however, is that Prajawati was offered some other seat but he insisted on this seat as he had won it in the previous poll, unseating Amita Singh who was also victorious in 2002.

Prajapati who is a minister for mines is facing some corruption charges and was dropped from the cabinet by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav for the same reason. Being close to his father , Mulayam Singh Yadav, he was taken in again.

On ther hand, the Congress, particularly Sanjay Singh pressed for Amita because she had won this seat twice before. Sanjay is head of the party's election campaign committee and his demand could not be ignored by the party.

A prediction of result of this constituency is difficult as the fight will be triangular this time with another former Rani chipping in. She is seeking election for the first time. Perhaps, the BJP fielded her to make the contest tougher.

Amethi is one of the constituencies where two partners will face each other. Raebareli is another which is destined to a " friendly fight".

There are some such other seats including Bindki in Fatehpur district,Gaura in Gonda district and Lucknow central in Lucknow district.
