Agartala: At least one woman was killed and more than six were injured when an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale rocked Tripura on Tuesday.

The tremor lasted for about four to five seconds in which loss of properties were also reported.

The deceased was identified as 54-year-old, Kamalini Kanda, resident of Nutan Bazar area in Kamalpur.

The epicentre of the earthquake was Dhalia district of Tripura at a depth was 28 kilometres.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA Anjan Das would also visit the area to estimate the loss of property and bring it to the notice of the government.

It may be mentioned that in 1897, the region had experienced an earthquake measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale which took the lives of more than 16 thousand people.
