Haridwar: The Shankaracharya of Dwarka peeth, Swami Swarupanand Saraswati, demanded on Wednesday a ban on sale of cow meat throughout the country through a legislation.

Talking to media persons here he said there is a ban on cow slaughter throughout the country but the ban has not been fully enforced by some of the states. The government should see to it that the law is effectively enforced.

The central legislation which should be passed soon should have some provisions which can deter people from selling cow meat.

According to him, cow protection is the duty of all Indians irrespective of caste and religion. The cow milk is useful for all the communities as it contains rich protein which is good for the body and health.
