Lucknow: In an attempt to build its constituency ahead of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress has decided to let people take khats along with them if they want to do so in the 'Khat Panchayat' of party leader Rahul gandhi.

Congress leaders feel that if people were stopped from bringing their 'khats', it might hurt their sentiments which could go against the party. With 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections are on the cards, Congress is in mood to upset the voters unnecessarily, mainly on this count.

During two consecutive Khat rallies of Rahul Gandhi in Deoria and Mirzapur, Khats were looted leaving Congress leaders into dilemma. More than 1,000 khats were looted in the rallies.

Congress workers are ordered not to stop people if they are taking khats along with them.

Rahul Gandhi will yet again hold Khat discussions on Friday at Inter College in Chitrakoot. More than 2,000 khats are hired for the rally, the local organisers said.
