80 killed in suicide truck bomb blast in Baghdad
Baghdad: At least 80 people, majorly Iranian Shia pilgrims, were killed in suicide truck bombing attack at a petrol station in Hilla city here on Thursday.
“At least seven buses with pilgrims were inside the petrol station at the time,” a police lieutenant colonel said.
The pilgrims were coming back to Iran from the Shia holy city of Kerbala after mourning for the killing of Imam Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Mohammad.
The intensity of the blast was high as five pilgrim buses were torched by the force of the blast.
“Those buses were loaded with Iranians, Bahrainis and Iraqis. Ambulances and civil defence are on their way to the site,” a police intelligence source said.
No terror group has taken the responsibility of the attack yet.
