2000 Red Fort attack accused Bilal Kawa arrested after 18 years

New Delhi: A major success in curbing terrorism in India has been achieved by the Delhi Police and Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) as they arrested a man said to be involved in the Red Fort terror attack that took place in the year 2000.

Bilal Ahmad Kawa was arrested from Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) after 18 years. It is to be mentioned that Kawa was declared a proclaimed offender in the terror case. He was held while travelling from Srinagar to Delhi.

Kawa was suspected to be linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P S Kushwah said that the questing was underway.

Kawa was on the run since 2000 and according to the police officials, he was hiding in Kashmir.

The attack:

Three Indian Army Jawans were killed in the December 22, 2000 Red Fort attack when the indiscriminate firing at the monument took place.

Apart from Kawa at least 11 people, including mastermind Mohammad Arif from Pakistan’s Abbottabad have been convicted in the case.
