Lucknow: September 18, 2016 would be remembered as a black day in the Indian history. A day when few armed men inhumanly attacked sleeping Indian Army officers at Uri in Jammu and Kashmir, shattering their dreams and leaving their families cry for a lifetime.

On early Sunday morning, as many as 18 soldiers of Indian Army were martyred while four terrorist were gunned down when some terrorists, believed to be ‘fidayeen’, attacked Army’s 12th brigade headquarters in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

The attack was the deadliest attack on any of the Indian security forces in Kashmir in two decades.

The terrorists had entered the base camp after cutting the fencing wires and indulged in indiscreet firing. In retaliation, the soldiers gunned down four of them while 17 soldiers also lost their lives.

“Most casualties were primarily because of tents and temporary shelters catching fire. At the initial stage, soldiers of both the regiments were asleep inside. At least 10 of them were killed,” an Army official had said.

The terrorists had also attacked the Handwara police post in North Kashmir on Tuesday. Intelligence sources had said on Sunday that a group of 15 terrorists have crossed the borders.

In a befitting reply, Indian Army on Tuesday last had gunned down 10 terrorists at Lachipura in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

Army said that Pakistan army had launched firing to get militants sneak into India violating ceasefire along Line of Control (LOC) to divert Indian soldiers.

In what can be called a revenge for the Uri terror attack, the Indian Army on Wednesday killed at least 20 suspected terrorists during an unflinching cross-border operation.

18 to 20 commandos of the elite 2 Para flew across the Line of Control (LoC) in military choppers and reportedly launched an operation killing at least 20 suspected militants in three terror camps in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).

It may be recalled that the people were up in arms against the Modi-led government for not taking adequate steps in retaliation for the fatal assault. They took to micro blogging website Twitter to express their rage over the matter.
