The UP connection of Pathankot Airbase Attack

Gorakhpur: Pathankot has Uttar Pradesh connection also. During interrogation of arrested suspected terrorists, security agencies have come across inputs that an ISI agent had come to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh after doing recce of Pathakot airbase.

This startling revelation was made by an arrested terrorist who admitted that ISI had deployed one of its agent in Gorakhpur and few other airbases to launch several attacks on Indian Air Force airbases.

But after the Pathakot attack, these agents were directed to go on the safe haven. “The Gorakhpur agent had disappeared and may have crossed the UP-Nepal border,” says a senior official, not wishing to be quoted.

* The Nepal border is hardly 100 kms away from Gorakhpur Air Force Station.

* In case of an attack by China, it is a strategic airbase.

* Here as special squadron is deployed to monitor activities of Maoists in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand

* The Gorakhpur airbase is under continuous threat by Pakistani ISI &Nepalese Maoists.

* The disturbed situation in Nepal has increased the chances of infiltration from the border.

* The airport is located within the dense Kusmhi forest.

* This makes the airbase too sensitive to its security and

How security has been enhanced

* Considering, the potential terrorist attacks IG security has directed enhanced security at

* Gorakhpur airbase adjacent to the security arrangements at the airport has been increased.

* A CCTV, two DFMD (door frame metal detector), three HHMD (hand-held metal detector) have been installed.

* Apart from this three more policemen were added to security team.
