UP government bans Bhojpuri song over objectionable words

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday banned a Bhojpuri song over the inappropriate usage of the word ‘namaz’.

The decision to this effect was taken by Chief Minister’s office. The song is obtaining popularity each passing day in the eastern Uttar Pradesh. From auto-rickshaws to Disc Jockey floors, the song is being played everywhere.

The Song:

The song, ’Lehnga me ghuskar namaz padhela’ has been sung by famous Bhojpuri singer Subhash Raja. The Muslim community had protested against the objectionable use of the word namaz.

Action taken by CM office:

Taking cognizance of the complaint from Muslims, the CM's office issued order for the song to be banned. Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan asked Principal Secretary, Home Debashish Panda to take immediate action on the composers of this song.

Complainant:

Syed Tipu Sultan, a resident of Walterganj area of Basti district in Uttar Pradesh had sent complaint about the song after local authorities failed to take the action.
