Prabhu and Rajnath seek to realise dream of Atal; announce new projects

Lucknow: Realising the old dream of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee , the Railway Ministry would further develop Gomtinagar railway station in Lucknow as a world class station at the cost of Rs 108 crore.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu made the announcement here on Friday in the presence of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, also the member of parliament from Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency. Speaking at the event, Prabhu said that the work would be completed by 2019 to make this world class station, the fifth in the country, operational.

The Railway Minister announced a slew of new railway projects for Uttar Pradesh , mainly the state capital of Lucknow where the Alamnagar railway station has been declared to be developed as a satellite station, the new entrances at City and Aishbagh railway stations beside modern facilities like escalator at existing main station of Charbagh.

Dedicating all these projects to Atal Behari Vajpayee, the Home Minister said that it was the former PM who as the parliamentary representative from Lucknow had envisaged these. Echoing the same sentiments, Suresh Prabhu said that these projects would be completed in time-bound manner. It may be recalled that Gomtinagar station was built on the initiative of Atal Behari with an idea to de-congest Charbagh railway station.

The Railway Minister said that the newly announced Humsafar Express train will run from Gomtinagar beside a daily train to Mumbai will also operate from here. He said that Uttar Pradesh remained on the priority of Railways even as his ministry allocated the highest-ever investment of 1.31 lakh crore in the development projects, which included a large chunk in UP.

The function organised on this occasion was marked by the absence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and any of the senior ruling party leaders or ministers. Rajnath, however, downplayed the absence of the CM and said the development was important rather than other such factors. He also stated that the developmental projects should maintain continuity irrespective of which party governments is in the power.
