Mercury plummets in Uttar Pradesh, Agra shivers at 4.8 degrees
Lucknow, The state capital of Lucknow and some areas of western Uttar Pradesh today woke up to perhaps the coldest morning of this season with mercury plummeting to single digit at many places.
Icy winds coming from higher reaches of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh resulted in sudden turn of weather in UP which so far has witnessed rather ‘warmer’ winters. Thick layer of fog and mist added to the chill affecting normal life to an extent as rail, road and air traffic was disrupted following inclement weather conditions.
Lucknow recorded its coldest winter today with mercury registering minimum temperature of 7.9 degree celcius. Taj city of Agra, however, remained the coldest place in the state during the last 24 hours with 4.8 degree celcius as the minimum temperature, the weatherman said.
Bareilly (8.8 ), Varanasi(10), Gorakhpur(10) and Allahabad (12) were other cold places in the state.
The dry and chilly weather conditions were expected to remain same for few days, State Metrological Director JP Gupta said here today.
