India's latest crush Priya Prakash Varrier returns to hostel

Chennai: She could not have imagined even in her dreams that a single shot in her debut southern movie will make her the crush of the entire country.

Just a seductive wink of an eye and a shy smile by Priya Prakash Varrier brought more than 1.3 million followers in a single day, which is a record even the biggest of the Indian cinema stars are yet to achieve.

The 18-year-old gorgeous diva, who is pursuing B.Com from Vimala college in Thrissur, has shockingly been sent back to the hostel by her family. The reason why they sent her back was that they found it difficult to deal with the fame their daughter garnered in a no time.

On being contacted by a news portal, Priya's mother Preetha said, "Priya has gone to the hostel," added, "The director has told us strictly not to give any interviews."

"He has said she's to give interviews only after the film releases. The film has just started and they've shot only a little bit. I've sent her to the hostel because of all this noise."

"We never expected this to happen. We never thought much about it. She had a desire and so we took her to an audition. She'd gone for another audition last year called by the same team, when she was a Class XII student and they'd selected her for that film as well - but the shooting was during the board exams. So she couldn't go for it. They'd said then itself that she should come the next time there's a casting call," her mother added.

A wink, and a shy but mischievous smile by Malayalam actress Priya Prakash Varrier in a 28-second clip from a film song has turned the 18-year-old into an internet sensation.

Priya, who features in the clip from 'Manikya malaraya poovi' -- a song from her forthcoming Malayalam film debut 'Oru Adaar Love' -- has, in her own words, become a 'national trend' on social media.

The song was launched online on February 9. It garnered almost 10,000,000 views on YouTube till Tuesday evening.

She registered on Twitter only earlier this month, and has already garnered a following of 60,000. On Instagram, she has got 2.5 million followers, and got a blue tick. She also has a verified official Facebook page.

Priya also expressed her delight over being the hottest trend in the country.

"Can't believe this, #NationalTrend. Thank you so much for your love and support," Priya tweeted on Monday as she shared a snapshot of Twitter's viral trends.

Her expressive eyes, innocence and smile in the clip wherein she gets flirty with her co-actor, have done the trick.

Telugu film actor Allu Arjun tweeted, "The cutest video I have seen in recent times. The power of simplicity. Love it!"

He was among the several others who noted the video for its old world charm of romancing with the eyes.

As the video clip went viral, Twitter was filled with memes capturing the funny side, some involved Gautam Gambhir, Ravi Shastri, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and even Katrina Kaif.

One tweet read, "Priya Prakash Varrier gave all types of expressions in that two minutes that Katrina Kaif couldn't give in her entire Bollywood career."

Priya's debut film, releasing next month, is written and directed by Omar Lulu, and produced by Ouseppachan Valakuzhy under the banner of Ouseppachan Movie House. It stars a bunch of newcomers and has music by Shaan Rahman.
