FIR lodged against Jeetendra in sexual assault case in Shimla

Shimla: The Shimla police has booked veteran Bollywood actor Jeetendra, originally known as Ravi Kapoor, in a sexual assault case, said a source on Wednesday.

The actor was accused by none other than his own cousin, who alleged that she was sexually assaulted in a city hotel by her brother 47 years ago when they stayed there together for a night.

The alleged victim had claimed that the actor was in the city for the shooting of a film and was in drunken state when attempted sexual assault on her.

Shimla's Superintendent of Police Umapati Jamwal confirmed the news saying, "An FIR under section 354 IPC has been registered at Chotta Shimla police station. After her email, we got in touch with the complainant, who later had also sent us a written complaint to support her version."

The alleged victim will now record her statement before the magistrate and will also give proof of her stay in the hotel.

Jeetendra is the son of the sister of alleged victim's father.

According to the complainant, Jeetendra had arranged for her to come from New Delhi to Shimla to join him on the sets of a film. He came drunk one night and joined two beds and sexually assaulted her, she added.

The probe will be carried out as per the old provisions of the Section 354 of IPC as the case belongs to 1971, confirmed Jamwal.

The complainer, however, is yet to provide the name of the hotel where she was allegedly sexually assaulted.

Jeetendra's lawyer has rebuffed the allegations terming them as baseless and ridiculous. Jeetendra, however, is one of the most iconic actors of Hindi film industry.
