Washington: Noted American magnate Warren Buffet’s annual charity lunch auction on Friday drew a winning bid of $3.4 million (over Rs 22 crore), almost 50 per cent above last year’s bid.

The final offer came from a bidder who wished to remain anonymous. It matched the record set by another bidder, who also chose to remain unknown, in 2012. A horde gathered at San Francisco in Northern California of United States (US) on Friday night to watch the final moments of bidding.

Highlights:

  • According to eBay’s website, bidding actually accelerated during the final day.
  • The week long eBay auction began on Sunday and wrapped up on Friday night.
  • In 2012, the winner also paid $3,456,789 to become the most expensive individual charity item ever sold on the website.
  • 85-year-old Buffet has raised more than $20 million through the lunches since 2000 to aid the homeless and poor in the city.
