SGPGI 26th Convocation – A Curtain Raiser

It has been 41 years, when the concept of creating a superspeciality tertiary care centre in Lucknow was thought of. The foundation stone of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow was laid on 14th December 1980 by the then President of India, Shri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy. The first phase of the institute was initiated in late 1982. Patient care and academic work commenced in the year 1988. Since then the institute is working consistently towards imparting best education to its students, providing best treatment and care to patients and making innovations in the area of clinical research and techniques.

SGPGI will celebrate its 26th Convocation Day on 27th August 2021 in Shruti auditorium. H.E, the President of India, hon'ble Shri Ram Nath Kovind will be the Chief Guest and give away the awards to the best students. H.E. the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Visitor, SGPGI Hon'ble Smt. Anandi Ben Patel will preside over the function. Degrees will be awarded to 116 students in various specialities, who have successfully completed their DM/M.Ch/PDAF/ PhD/MD/ MHA and B Sc. (Nursing) training .


Professor S S Agarwal and Professor S R Naik award will also be given to deserving Faculty member and Resident for their outstanding research work. This year, Dr. Gaurav Agarwal, Professor, Department of Endocrine Surgery and Chief Medical Superintendent, SGPGI will be conferred the Professor SR Naik award. Mr. Sangam Rajak, Department of Endocrinlogy will be felicitated with Professor S S Agarwal award for the best research paper. Professor R K Sharma award to the Best DM Student will be given to Dr. Pankti Mehta of Clinical Immunology and Dr. R K Sharma Award for Best M. Ch. student will be conferred upon Dr. Shitangsu Kakoti of Department of Urology.


Professor R K Dhiman, Director, SGPGIMS, himself an alumnus of the Institute will present the Institute report of the last one year.The Convocation will be held in hybrid mode keeping in mind the Covid norms. Barring a few selected guests, the rest of the faculty members as well as degree recepients' families will join the occasion through Zoom platform.

The degree of MD-(DOCTOR OF MEDICINE) will be conferred upon 33 students.A total of 40 candidates will obtain DM-(DOCTORATE OF MEDICINE) degrees.18 students will get M.Ch (MAGISTER CHIRURGIAE) degrees. 10 students have qualified for PDAF-(POST DOCTORAL ADVANCE FELLOWSHIP) degrees. Ph.D (DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY) will be given to 2 successful candidates. 5 students have completed their MASTERS IN HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION (M.H.A) training and will be awarded degrees. 8 students will be proud recepients of BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (NURSING) degrees. All these students have worked tirelessly to achieve their dreams, worked as covid warriors too in the pandemic and their contribution to providing health care to society will be immense by virtue of their rigorous training at SGPGI.
