Lucknow: Lawyers in 22 districts across Uttar Pradesh boycotted work on Tuesday to press for the withdrawal of a case against a colleague who has been booked under the dreaded Gangster Act in a land grab case.

Ranjan Mittal, a lawyer in Muzaffarnagar, was booked two weeks back.

Lawyer bodies who are participating in the Tuesday strike said Mittal has been falsely implicated in the case and demanded that it be withdrawn with immediate effect.

A memorandum for the same has been given to the authorities in all 22 districts where the lawyers struck work.

Alleging victimisation of their colleague, the lawyers fraternity has been on the warpath for the past few days.

There has been no response from the state government or the district administration on the demands so far.
