Kushinagar accident: School manager arrested; case filed against driver

Kushinagar: Taking stringent action into Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar accident where a train rammed into a school van leaving 13 children dead, a case has been registered against the Divine Public School management.

School manager Kaleem Jahan Khan has been taken under custody, while a case has been registered against van driver Niyaz.

"A case has been registered against school administration under IPC sections 279, 33, 338, 307, 120B," said police.

It is worth mentioning that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally visited Kushinagar after the accident.

He, however, was given an unpleasant reception by the agitated parents of the deceased and injured children. They shouted anti-government slogans.

After visiting the unmanned railway crossing where the accident took place, CM Yogi also visited BRD Medical College to meet the injured children.

According to a railway official the incident occurred around 7.10 am., at the Behpurva railway crossing, around 100 km from Gorakhpur.

Railways spokesperson Ved Prakash said that the children of the Divine Public School died on spot when the Siwan-Gorakhpur passenger train crashed into the van at the crossing.

According to a North Eastern (NE) Railway official, at least 25 people, mostly children below the age of 10 years were travelling in the van when the incident occurred.

The train was on its way to Gorakhpur from Siwan.
