20 infected with HIV in UP as quack treats them with common syringe

Unnao: In a sheer negligence by the 'quack', at least 20 people have been infected with HIV in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district after they were injected with a common syringe.

An NGO, in 2017, reported several cases of HIV in the area. Senior officials organised three health camps and found several people with HIV syndrome.

On further investigating, it was found that quack used to treat people with the same needle over and over again, the reason behind the spread of HIV infection.

Out of 400 people, 40 were found with the symptoms. Twenty persons, including kids, have been confirmed to be HIV positive, while the rest are being tested in ART Centre, Kanpur.

A complaint has been filed against the unknown persons and further investigations are on.
