Dehradun: Two teachers of Sherwood College in Uttarakhand have been sentenced to a year in jail. They were being found wanting in discharge of their duties during an excursion in which two students were killed after a tractor trolley they were travelling in overturned.

A group of 42 students had gone to an excursion to Sitabani in Nainital district in 2010. They were accompanied by two teachers -- Ashish Dwivedi and Rohit Jalaal. The children were driven in a tractor trolley which overturned, killing two students and injuring seven others.

The parents of the two students, Anmol Bhatt (14) of Haldwani and Ibrahim Ansari (14) of Kanpur, had filed a case against the tractor's driver, Anand, and the two teachers.

Judicial Magistrate Manju Devi agreed with the prosecution that the teachers were callous and held them and the driver guilty, the official said.
