London: A fresh study has warned that watching television for 15 minutes (or more) a day can make a child less creative as compared to kids who read books or solve puzzles.

“Watching TV for short periods of time does not affect the creativity in kids but it may be hindered if a child watches telly shows for more than 15 minutes every day,” said researchers at the Staffordshire University in United Kingdom.

“The survey was primarily aimed at finding the immediate impact of TV on the creativity of children,” said Dr Sarah Rose, a psychology lecturer who conducted the study.

Other highlights:

  • As many as 60 toddlers were involved in the research.
  • According to the study, 15 minutes of television reduces the originality of ideas kids come up with.
