Star Sports India bags BCCI media rights for Rs 6,138 crore for 5 years

Mumbai: Star Sports India has bagged the BCCI media rights for a whopping sum of Rs 6,138.1 crore for a period of five years or Rs 60.1 crore per game, said a source on Thursday.

Confirming the contract, a Board of Control for Cricket in India official confirmed the news saying that the contract has been signed for 2018 to 2023.

Sony, Star and Reliance were elected as the eligible members for the bidding for all the three packages of the BCCI media rights.

The media rights value has gone up by 59 per cent with the per match value touching Rs 60.1 crore for a total of 102 international games across three formats.

The value has gone up by Rs 17.1 crore as compared to Rs 43 crore (per match) during the previous period (2012-2018).

It may be mentioned that the e-auction had begun at 2 pm on Thursday. The media rights cover Global Television Rights plus ROW Digital Rights Package (GTVRD), Indian Subcontinent Digital Rights Package (ID) and Global Consolidated Rights Package (Global Television rights plus Global Digital Rights) [GCR].

Earlier in September 2017, BCCI had sold the worldwide IPL television and digital rights for the period 2018-22 for a whopping Rs 16,347.5 crore (US$ 2.55 billion) to Star India.
