Chandigarh: Despite a wonderfully economical spell by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Chris Gayle managed to notch up the first hundred of Indian Premier League (IPL 2018) season 11 guiding Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) to a huge score of 193/3 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium here on Thursday.

The 'Universe Boss' Gayle exploited the best bowling line-up in the IPL 2018 to score 104 runs off 63 balls hitting 1 four and 11 humongous sixes. He, however, only smashed one six to Bhuvi off the last ball of his spell as the Indian speedster conceded only 25 runs in his four overs with one wicket.

It was the 21st T20 hundred by Gayle and seventh at the venue. Lokesh Rahul, who has been in magnificent touch this season, looked off colour today as he scored only 18 runs off 21 balls with 3 fours only. Mayank Agarwal was looking great but could not last long as he got out after adding 18 runs off 9 balls with 2 fours and a six.

Karun Naair also played in important cameo of 31 runs off 21 balls with 3 fours and a six. Aaron Finch, who went for a duck in the previous two matches, scored 14 runs off only 6 balls with 1 four and a six.

Siddharth Kaul should also be given credit for keeping the scoring rate under 10 when Gayle was in full flow. He conceded 33 runs in his four overs for a wicket. Rashid Khan, who has been famous for not letting the batsmen free their arms, was brutally thrashed in today's match. He conceded 55 runs in his four overs for a wicket.

Shakib Al Hasan gave 28 runs in 2 overs while Deepak Hooda gave 16 runs off 2 overs. Chris Jordan, who was included in the playing XI for Billy Stanlake today, remained wicket-less but gave only 31 runs in his four overs.

It is not going to be easy for SRH to chase down a target as huge as 194 runs.
