Virtual Autism: To deprive a child of childhood pleasures and naughtiness

Does your child eat food while watching mobile phone or TV? Does he watch TV for a long time? Does your kid struggle in choosing words to speak and finds it difficult to concentrate on assigned works? These things can be symptoms of Virtual Autism.

What is Virtual Autism?

According to a news published in The Hindu Virtual autism is a phrase formulated in 2018 by Marius Teodor Zamfir, a Romanian psychologist. He found that children, 0-3 years, who stared at screens for over four hours a day, had “sensory-motor and socio-affective deprivation”. This activated “behaviours and elements similar to those found in children diagnosed with ASD [autism spectrum disorder]”.

Symptoms of Virtual Autism:

  • Watching TV or Mobile phone for a long time
  • Chirp once in a while
  • Can’t speak even after age of 2 years
  • Don’t recognize family members
  • Don’t respond
  • Repeat single activity
  • Don’t make eye contact

Today’s parents are becoming careless and that’s why they give mobile phones to children instead of spending time with them. Mobile phones are becoming their new partners. Parents think that they are teaching their children through phones but ultimately they are addicting children with gadgets. The age between 1-3 years are becoming victim of this disease.

How to prevent?

To prevent children from this disease or to cure them you can follow these points:

  • Focus on positivity
  • Play with your children
  • Do some creative things
  • Give some time to your children
  • Follow a sleep pattern
  • Don’t use phone so much with your child
  • Show proper love and care to your child
