Stones are used in constructing buildings but can they also be used for turning milk into curd?
Unbelievable though it may sound, there is such a stone in Rajasthan’s desert district of Jaisalmer which is used precisely for making curd from milk.
The stone is found at a place known as ‘Haburgaon’, which is situated about 50 kilometres from Jaisalmer district headquarters.
The unique stone is found here which coagulates the milk and turns it into curd. Normally we use buttermilk for this process but the people who live in this place don’t use buttermilk or any other chemical for this purpose. They have been using this miraculous stone for turning the milk into curd for the past over 100 years.

The stone at Habur village (Present name is Poonamnagar) has many qualities. This stone is called “Haburiya Bhata” in local language. Milk becomes curd when it comes into contact with this stone. This stone is very famous among the local residents. Tourists, who flock the place, also visit the village to have a look at the stone and find about the same. This stone is not only used for curd process but utensils are also made from this stone which are very popular among the tourists. They purchase these items at a large scale.
Reason behind this Magic:
According to a research this stone contains every chemical for curd- forming including Amino Acid, Phenyl Alinia, Riftafen Tyrosine. These chemicals help to make curd from milk. The curd stored in it gives fragrance and also very tasty.

Not only chemicals but this Haburiya Bhata has many minerals and fossils which make it miraculous.
Stones, Sculptures and toys are made with stone. It is light golden and shiny. According to the villagers famous ‘Taj Mahal’ also contained some particles of this stone.
Although Jaisalmer is a very popular destination for both domestic and foreign tourists, who go there to see the grand ‘havelis’ and fort there, next time when you go there do not forget to visit Habur village. You may also try to make curd from milk using the stone.
