Lucknow: The sleep and dreaming researcher Rosalind Cartwright believes that dreams simply reflect life events that are important to the dreamer.

Recently, neuroscientists have also become interested in understanding why we dream. For example, Hobson (2009) suggests that dreaming may represent a state of proto-consciousness. In other words, dreaming involves constructing a virtual reality in our heads that we might use to help us during wakefulness.

1. Dreams About Falling

Dreams about falling from great heights are very common. While there is a popular myth that if you hit the ground in your dream you will die in real life, it simply is not true. So what exactly could dreams about falling really mean?

According to many popular dream interpretations, falling dreams are a sign that something in your life isn't going well. It might suggest that you need to rethink a choice or consider a new direction in some area of your life.

2. Dream about being naked

Have you ever have one of those awkward dreams where you show up naked in school or office don’t worry. Dreaming about being naked is hardly unusual.

Penny Peirce, author of the Dream Dictionary for Dummies, suggests that dreaming of public nudity might indicate that you feel like a phony or that you are afraid of revealing your imperfections and shortcomings.

3. Dream about losing a teeth

Dreaming about losing teeth can have multiple meanings. It might mean that you are worried about your attractiveness or appearance. It might also indicate that you are concerned about your ability to communicate or concerned that you might have said something embarrassing.

4. Dream about flying

Dreams about flying can be exciting and even liberating but they can sometimes be quite frightening (especially for those afraid of heights). According to Tony Crisp, author of Dream Dictionary, dreams about flying often represent two very different sides. On the one hand, such dreams can represent feelings of freedom and independence. On the other hand, they can also indicate a desire to flee or escape from the realities of life.

5. Dream about having sex

Sex dreams can symbolize intimacy and a literal desire for sex. Or they may demonstrate the unification of unconscious emotions with conscious recognition, showing a new awareness and personal growth.

6. Dream about being cheated by your partner

If you’re in a relationship, and you’ve ever been cheated on in the past, you’ll remember that sinking feeling when you first found out. This has been wired into your brain and heavily labelled as ‘bad’. So whenever we’re in a relationship in the future (after being cheated on before) we sadly spend a little bit of time dreaming or thinking about ‘what if I got cheated on again?!’

And that’s why we sometimes dream about being cheated on. It doesn’t always mean you don’t trust your partner, you have to consider if you’ve been hurt before and how badly. You might have the best most loyal partner ever, but if you’ve been cheated on a lot before, it’s only natural to be a little cautious and that’s why you dream about it.

7. Dream about snakes

Snakes are a very common animal to dream about because they’re so easily linked with lies and deception. Historically, snakes have been linked to lies in the bible and throughout history. To dream about a snake can mean that you’re anxious about something or you think someone around you is lying about something.

8. Dream about drowning

To dream about drowning means that you’re worried about losing control. You’ve probably noticed that a lot of these dream meanings are about either freedom, control or fears. These are the forces which guide our dreams.

Dreaming about drowning means you’re feeling out of control, overwhelmed and helpless. Consider which areas of your life need fixing and then do it!

9. Dream about meeting someone famous

Usually every celebrity or famous person you know is linked with something. Let’s say you dream about a famous comedian, maybe it’s saying you want to be more confident or even funnier?

If you dream about a famous athlete, it could suggest you want to become an athlete. It’s usually linked to what the person is famous for except when it’s a sex dream in which case it’s pure desire.

10. Dream about losing your phone

We often think about or use our phones quite a lot. To think about our phones this often makes us of course worried about the concept of losing our phone.

Another reason for this dream is that phones are of course linked to communication. To lose your phone in a dream can suggest that you’re having a breakdown of communication with your loved ones or partner.
