Yogi Adityanath orders to make UP potholes free by June 15

Deoria: Taking a pot shot at previous Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, his successor Yogi Adityanath on Sunday claimed that potholes and darkness at the stroke of evening had become the identity of the state.

Speaking at a function organised to distribute assistive devices to specially-abled people here, the UP CM said, "People used to identify our state once they saw potholes and darkness at the stroke of evening. This has to be changed. Our government has asked the bureaucrats to make UP pothole-free by June 15."

It may be recalled that the Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, during the 2017 Assembly elections campaign in the state, had claimed on numerous occasions that his government had improved the quality of roads.

He had even claimed that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled on the roads built by his government, he would vote for Samajwadi Party.

He also reiterated his promise of providing 24-hour electricity to all the 75 district headquarters in Uttar Pradesh.

"We will provide 24-hour power supply to every district headquarters. Every tehsil will get 20-hour electricity while rural areas will have power supply for 18 hours," said Yogi Adityanath.

It may be recalled that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had promised to provide 24-hour power supply in its election manifesto.

He claimed that his government will ensure rule of law and order in Uttar Pradesh and any anti-social element will not be spared. He apparently made the remark against the people spreading violence in the name of cow protection across the state.

Yogi further promised to reopen the closed sugar mills of the state and keep encephalitis in eastern UP will under check.
