Washington: American multinational company ‘Yahoo Incorporate’ has announced to ‘shut down’ its chat service called Yahoo Messenger from August 5 next.

Furthermore, the company on Tuesday asked all its users across the globe to move to the new version of the messenger, which was introduced last year.

“We had launched the Yahoo Messenger application, which was built on a modern platform, for mobile as well as for web in December, last year. This revamp brings users an incredibly fast and smart way to send messages, pictures and animated Graphics Interchange Formats (GIFs) in group conversations,” said the chief architect of Yahoo Inc. Amotz Maimon while explaining the company’s move.

Highlights:

  • Yahoo Messenger was launched on March 9, 1998 under the name ‘Yahoo! Pager.’
  • The company was the first Instant Messaging (IM) client to feature BUZZing and music-status.
