What kind of Muslims are these terrorists: PM Sheikh Hasina

Dhaka: Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina on Saturday vowed to eradicate terrorism from the country and said she did not understand what kind of Muslims were these people after security forces stormed a cafe in the capital of Bangladesh and killed Islamic State (IS) militants to rescue the hostages.

“The attack was an extremely heinous one. I don’t really understand what kind of Muslims are these terrorists. In fact, I think people like them cannot be followers of any religion,” the PM said in a televised speech.

“The gunmen claimed to be Muslims but they defied the call of tarabi –Ramadan’s evening prayer – to carry out the atrocious attack. Nothing can justify the killing of innocent people. They definitely do not have any religion except terrorism,” added PM Hasina.

Other highlights:

• The PM said her government would make every possible move to uproot the violent extremists from the country.
• The attack took place in Holey Artisan Bakery Restaurant, a Spanish restaurant in Gulshan locality of Dhaka.
• The security forces had killed five terrorists and freed 13 of the hostages.
