Varanasi: World famous ‘tabla’ (Indian drums) player Lakshman Narayan Singh popularly known as‘Lacchu Maharaj’ passed away in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh. He was 72.

It may be mentioned that the artist was veteran Bollywood actor Govinda’s maternal uncle as well as guru (teacher).

According to sources, Govinda will be coming to the city to attend his uncle’s funeral.

Lacchu Ji was not keeping well for the last few days. He complained of chest ache and succumbed to a cardiac arrest in late hours on Wednesday at a local hospital,” said sources close to his family.

Lacchu Ji, not only in the country but across the globe, gave many super-hit performances during his lifetime and made the nation proud with his unmatchable tabla beating skills. He had performed in more than 24 countries

Moreover, the musician refused to accept the ‘Padmashri Award’ from the then UP government due to his ‘down to earth’ attitude.
