Uttar Pradesh government issues stern warning to ‘over-enthusiastic’ bureaucracy

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government, on Monday, came down heavily on the ‘over-enthusiastic’ bureaucracy and warned it of do away with ‘unnecessary’ vigilantism saying it was totally unacceptable.

Seeking to clarify Yogi government’s stand on two of most talked-about actions against illegal slaughter houses and Road Romeos by anti-romeo squads, the government spokesman and UP Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh had to go to media to make it clear that the state government acted on illegal slaughter houses only and there should be no confusion on that.

He asserted that the action was aimed against illegal slaughter houses but some of the officials went over-board to harass even legal ones also. “ This is not at all acceptable and such officers will face action,’’ he fumed , however, adding “ what is wrong is wrong and will be acted upon strictly.”

A lot of complaints were made against the police personnel for being 'unjustified' in their actions in anti-romeo drive raising questions on the wisdom of new Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state.

Sidharth said the government never asked for the closure of legal slaughter houses and some requirements here and there should be taken up in compassionate manner by the dealing officials. ‘” The government has received reports of some high handed action against legal slaughter houses also which has never been ordered by the Yogi government,’’ he further clarified.

Expressing willingness on behalf of the government , he the concerned ministers or even the Chief Minister is open to talk to aggrieved persons, if any, and will meet the delegations to thrash out the issue which has been blown out of proportion by vested interests. "I reaffirm that our government will not act in a prejudice manner," Siddharth added.

It may be recalled that a lot of hue and cry is being made on social media and the social circles following crack-down on the slaughter houses and all these have closed down the meat shops in protest. Similarly, the government has come in for sharp criticism over misplaced action against boys by anti-romeo squads all over the state.
