Kaganj: The Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday prevented Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) UP president Lakshmikant Bajpayi from entering Agra and detained him near Soro area of Kasganj district in Uttar Pradesh.

He was not allowed to enter Agra in view of imposition of section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) after the murder of local VHP leaders. The BJP President was, later, taken to the Soro guest house, said District Magistrate Vijayendra Pandiyan.

He was going to Agra to meet the kins of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Arun Mahaur, who was shot dead on February 25 last.

The BJP President alleged that he was illegally detained by the police for four hours and put under house arrest at Soro Guest House. The DM, however, denied the charge. He, later left to Bareilly after staying for four hours at the Soro guest house.
