Saharanpur: Feudalism still prevails in Uttar Pradesh rural areas. In what can be termed as a case of caste dominance, members of upper caste forcibly stopped the marriage procession of a Dalit groom in Dariyapur village of Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh.

The situation in the village was tensed for more than three hours and later the procession was carried out in the presence of police on Sunday, sources said.

The matter:

  • People of the dominant caste Thakurs protested the marriage procession.
  • They stopped the ‘baraat’ when it passed through their way.
  • The groom was sitting on a horse and was stopped in soaring sun for 3 hours.
