Sreejesh to lead Indian hockey team, Sardar dropped as captain

New Delhi: The Indian hockey squad for the ensuing Rio Olympics was announced on Tuesday and it has goalkeeper P R Sreejesh has been given the charge to lead the team.

The team was announced by the Hockey India President Narinder Batra and Forward SV Sunil has been named as the vice-captain on the team.

Not having reached the podium since 1980 Moscow games, the Indian men’s hockey team is the most successful team after winning the eight gold medals.

The Team:

Goalkeeper: PR Sreejesh (Captain).

Standbys: Pradeep Mor and Vikas Dahiya.

Forwards: SV Sunil (Vice-captain), Akashdeep Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Nikkin Thimmaiah.

Midfielders: Sardar Singh, Devinder Walmiki, Danish Mujtaba, Chinglensana Singh, Manpreet Singh, SK Uthappa.

Defenders: Harmanpreet Singh, Rupinderpal Singh, Kothajit Singh, Surender Kumar, VR Raghunath.
